Is the Cavanaugh Family Somehow “Deserving” of this Particularly Poor Treatment by the Borough for some “Good Reason?”
Although it’s wrong, some individuals in local government do sometimes single out certain people for unfair treatment for what they think is a good reason. So, is the Cavanaugh family deserving of such poor treatment from Mendham Borough. No. We have paid nearly $1 million of property taxes to our local municipalities over our years in Mendham. We have also been active members of the community for 3 decades.
Maria actually grew up in Mendham, so she has lived in this community for over 50 years. The four Cavanaugh children daughters attended the local schools and have served the community over the years in the following manners:
1. Volunteering for a collective 6 years for the St Joe’s Appalachia Mission Trip
2. Volunteering for a collective 5 years for “Saturdays in Motion” at the Somerset
3. Volunteering for a collective 3 years on the local rescue squad as an EMT
Brian has served the community in a variety of ways over the years, all uncompensated:
1. Coached rec-league basketball for 10 years
2. Served for 2 years on the Borough Planning Board
3. Served for 2 ½ years on the Regional High School Board of Education
4. Has chaperoned the weeklong St Joe’s Appalachia Mission for 13 years (and counting)
5. As a Pastime Club member, has “worked the games or food tent” at the annual Labor Day Carnival for nearly the past 20 years.
So, our family has been an integral part of this community for decades. We have paid our taxes. We simply don’t understand why we would be singled out for such callous treatment by our local government
